Lama D. Dorjee
Lama D. Dorjee is a highly distinguished teacher in the Kagyu order of
Tibetan Buddhism. He was born in Tibet and grew up in India as a refugee
from the Chinese Communist invasion of Tibet. He studied Buddhist
philosophy at Sanskrit University in Varanasi, India and earned an
Acharya degree (equivalent to a western Master's degree).
Lama D. Dorjee then completed the
traditional Tibetan Buddhist retreat lasting three years and three
months under the guidance of the Very Venerable Kalu Rinpoche and of
Beru Khyentse Rinpoche. This intensive, secluded retreat is like earning
a Ph.D. in meditation and Buddhist spiritual practices.
His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa
gave empowerments to Lama D. Dorjee and authorized him as one of His
Holiness's direct representatives in the United States.
Lama D. Dorjee has been teaching
Dharma in the west since 1982. He is known for his joy and humor, as
well as his skill in presenting meditation practices in a clear and
practical way for westerners.
Lama D. Dorjee is now the resident
Lama at the KTC Dallas meditation center. He teaches there and
throughout the United States. Of special interest are Lama D. Dorjee's
two annual teaching and practice retreats. The first happens each March:
a week-long teaching and practice retreat on 'The Union of Mahamudra and
Dzogchen' held at a camp/retreat center in north Texas ,known as the
"Bluebunny Retreat". The second occurs around June during the
auspicious time of Saka Dawa: three successive Nyungne purification
practice retreats held at KTC Dallas.
